I missed Caleb's team meeting Saturday but talked to the coach the other night. he was suppose to have practice last night but had a band concert so we didn't make it :(
Anyway she said practice will be form 5:30-7:30 Monday Tuesday and Thursday's with a Friday or Saturday morning thrown in when we have a game that prevents regular practice :think2
This is our 1st year playing since about 3rd grade but this seems like a little much if you ask me :shrug It is only a rec. league but this coach said she is the only female in this age group and will not be walked on by the men coachs. :shakehead
Anybody know what the norm practice time for this age?
Shelby and Hanna only have 1 or 2 1 hour long practices a week :)

Will they continue that practice schedule throughout the season? Here the kids have tons of practice before the season starts, then it's only games and occasional practice if the kids need some help on stuff.

She said it would be 3 2 hour practices a week the whole season :(
She also threw in she ran in 1st place last season up until the last 3 games when her team got knocked down to 2nd. I am thinking she is a little too competitive for me.

Is it through the school? Or Little League? My oldest son played last year on his Jr High team and they had practice daily except Wed and game days.

Little League through the city. They can not practice on Wendesday or Sundays but the rest is not limited :(
School ball is the same here they have practice just about everyday but it is right after school and over by 5 or so. I wish he would have gone out for the school team :kickcan

I wonder what the Little Leage bylaws say. I think that they are only allowed to practice a certain amount of time a week if I'm not mistaken. Call the commissioner and ask for a copy or for some information! That does seem like an awful lot of practice for a PAID league!

:thud Wow that is alot of practice for a city run league. They usually have rules on this type of thing. I know Lo only practices one or 2 days a week and it's only for 1 hour each time. Once games start they don't practice anymore.

We only have 1-2 one-hour practices a week but we might have 2 games a week, too.

I talked to the parks director last week before I found out the practice stuff and he said it is not limited on the amount of time but the encourage at least 1 practice a week and it can not be on Wednesday or Sunday so I took it as whatever the coach says.
Maybe I should call him and put a bug in his ear how much she is wanting out of these kids or maybe I should wait and see how it plays out first :shrug

Or you could just let your son practice when you decide it's ok. You don't have to take him to every practice, but she does have to let him play!

I think thats definately way too much to practice for a city league. That's supposed to be about fun. I could understand if it was for a school team or a competitive team but it's not. The kids still have school and need a life outside of baseball.

One other point, they can't refuse to let your son play just because he doesnt' go to all the practices if you pay for the season.

:thinking Good point I never thought of it that way!
that is how it is around here. Little League run through the city practices daily :roll
My oldest plays Lacrosse through his school, they practice Monday through Friday for 2 hrs.
I think both activites practice too much!

We have roughly 2-3 hour and a half practices a week right now and when the games start I think it's only 1 practice depending on how many games they have that week...they average 2 games a week. One during the week and then usually one on Friday night or Saturday afternoon. That really seems like an insane amt of practicing.

And here, they don't refuse to let them play, but they do like to take away their favorite position if they don't show up to all the practices. :shakehead

Lisa this may have already been mentioned, but with 5 kids it's hard sometimes to get them to every single practice so I will email or call the coach and see if he can catch a ride. They want their players there so they are usually more than willing. Another idea, which I've also had to do before, is call one of the parents that live near me and offer to return the favor the next time or whenever they need someone to take their kid. Maybe you could do that? Good luck to ya...I'm sure it will all work out.

:hugs Thanks Loosey!
I think one of his friends is the coach's son so it should work out. I am just not digging so much practice :(
