We are having some trouble with our local Early intervention, so we are changing to private therapy. We have orders for weekly PT/OT and speech. I have the option of taking Garrett to Columbus Childrens Hospital, or having in home care done from a local home health agency.

Here are my concerns.

At childrens I have

Pros-

1. Awsome services
2. Feel very comfortable

Cons
1. the drive (snow, car problems, only 1 car for 2 adults, time)
2. childcare (I would need someone to watch Taylor and Gavin)
3. They have a pretty lengthy wait list.

At interim-

Pros-

1. No child care needed
2. They come to me
3. Services can start within 2-3 weeks

Cons
1. not "specialized" in children. But they have therapist who work with kids.
2. May not have therapist who work with kids and have avaliability.

I also have a 3ed option, the local hospital

Pros
1. close in location
2. can do PT/OT
3. work with children

Cons-

1. Hospital is not very respected
2. Can not provide speech for about 6 months
3. would still have to have childcare

I guess I could put them on the wait list at Childrens, and then if I do not like the home health therapy, Childrens would be an option.

What is your opinion? Do you prefer at home therapy, or center therapy? What would you do based on my options above?

Okay, here's my opinion. I would go to the children's hospital. They always tend to be the best. I had to take my first dd to a lot of different specialists, and I only went to the children's hospital because they were the ones I trusted the most. Although at-home is more convenient, they don't specialize in children. However, you still may be able to find a good in-home therapist, it's hard to say. At least put him on the waiting list for the children's hospital to keep your options open. Good luck with your decision. :hugs

I think you should get put on the waitlist, and take the home therapy as soon as you can. I wish Josh could get services at home. It's so hard to coordinate childcare and driving :blah And like you said, if you end up happy with the home therapy, you can just stick with that :)

I hate those kind of decisions when your littles ones health is involved:(

I personally would most likely put him on a list for the Children's Hospital because I agree they are awesome. Since you may not get in for awhile you could use the private option at home and still be on the list in case you didnt' like the home option or needed more services than they can provide. That way you are covered at least somewhat in the host term and in the long term if you dont' like home health as well. Good luck whatever you do:hugs

I haven't had to do OT or PT, but based on what you told us I would do exactly what Brandi said. :yep
