We just got back from visiting the girls. It's ALL good news- thank the Lord.
Addison is now in an open bassinet, this means she can maintain her own body temperature. She is no longer on the pulse oz monitor. This is a monitor that reads the level of oxygen in her blood. She went 24 hours with great oxygen saturation so they no longer need to monitor it. She was on the bilirubin light yesterday for mild jaundice but she has already been taken off of it. She is now nippling every feed so they will be removing the G-tube at 4:30 today. The g-tube is necessary to push milk right into her stomach if she was unable to nipple her entire feed. By tomorrow she should be off her IV. Her feeds are being increased every other feeding, at the same time, her IV is being turned down. So by tomorrow, she will be off the IV entirely. When that happens, I will get to breast feed her. She does not have to succeed at breast feeding in order to come home- she just has to be able to nipple her feedings. So, if everything goes well she will complete all the requirements for discharge. #1 be at least 35 weeks- check #2 maintain her body temperature-check #3 be at least 4lbs- check #4 be off IV, tomorrow #5 nipple all feeds- check!! She is also back up to her birth weight (5lbs)

Samantha is now off the ventilator! She is on a nasal cannula. She is now feeding again but only through her g-tube. I'm not sure when we will be able to start nipple feeding her but it should be soon. She lost another couple ounces and is now weighing 5lbs 10 oz, this is still normal. It's expected since she hasn't been feeding long- she has been on IV mostly. It's normal for babies to lose up to 10% of their birth weight. Her birth weight was 6lbs even. All in all Samantha is doing excellent. Just moving a bit slower but we still expect her home in the next week or two. Hopefully before Christmas but that may not happen. The goals she still needs to meet are #1 maintain her body temp, #2 nipple her feeds, #3 be off the IV and #4 be off the oxygen.
