View Full Version : IEP evals
The boys' teachers did evaluations on them to create a new IEP for next year, and when I went to pick them up, Chris's teacher was scoring his (Dom's teacher hasn't yet). He scores right on target everywhere except, of course, expressive language - and cognitive skills, where he scores two years AHEAD! :thud They're smart little devils.

:woot Way to go Chris! It may prove to be a difficult road for you though. :lol Too smart for his own good! I have one just like him.

They both have a lot of signs (I think about 50 each, I haven't counted in a while though). They make a lot of noise, babbling and baby sounds, and attempt beginning word sounds. Their speech therapists have been pleased with their progress, but I have to admit, I really hope there'd be more spoken words by now. They say mama, da, buh (brother) and eah (yeah). Mostly they sign. They use signs in combination too ("more" "friends" to say friends again after they fight, and they say "green" "popsicle" a lot :roll). Their expressive language, including the signs as words, is still very behind, but it's progressed since they started in the developmental delay program. The summer school program they'll be going to is for speech delays more than developmental delays.

That is so cool that they are making such good progress!!
I could never get Toad to learn the signs. It took forever for him to get the basics (please, thank you, more, eat, drink, potty). They worked on other ones in his speech class, but they wouldn't stick in his head.
They know all the colors, most animals (dog, cat, bird, elephant, monkey, bear, etc.), a lot of foods (milk, juice, water, cheese, apple, etc.), cars and trucks (bus, car, airplane). I made a list back in December on my blog, but they've learned more since then:
dog
train
cat

airplane
play
popsicle
water
milk

cookie

:aww smart and cute little guys!
I'm not sure what the program will be like, but I hope it'll be more intensive. They get speech therapy twice a week now. It would be great if the program was all-speech, since it's intended for children with speech delays.
