For once I have HUGE news to report!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so flipping excited!!!!!!!!!!!!! Garrett had his 1 year re-eval results meeting at the Autism clinic. The Dr. said Garretts scores are right smack in the middle of the range for Autism. He said he is pretty comfortable saying Garrett has PDD-NOS but is not ready yet to put that in writing. Part of the reasoning is, Insurance will not pay for therapy if Autism is given as a diagnosis. He said it would be better for Garrett to continue the way we are. Us knowing, but not diagnosing in writing, that Garrett has PDD. He said if it comes to it, and he needs the diagnosis for school or something, then we will talk about it, but he does not want to attach a label to him that could take away from the services he is getting. Now, for my HUGE news!!!!!!!!! They did standardized testing on Garrett. Last year, they told me that Garrett has mild mental retardation. His IQ was 69, putting him in the impaired range. This year they did 3 different IQ tests on him. The tests all use the same score. The average is 100, with a mean of 10 on either side. So "normal" for lack of a better word, is 80-110. The first one they did, is one they use on children with disabilities. Garretts IQ score on it was 106!!!!!!!!! Up from 69 to 106 in 1 year!!!! The next they did, is one they use on typicals. (Children with no disability) Garretts IQ score was a 110!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was beaming at this point. Balling my eyes out for my little boy. All of the stress of the last year, it is paying off, 2 fold!!!!!!!! Then they gave him one called a non-verbal IQ test. There is no talking for this test. They have a book with pictures, and flashcards. Garrett had to use the flashcards to complete patterns, do something like I spy where he had to match the card with the apple to the apples on the tree and so on. This one tests his intelligence but is not inhibited by his language barrier. HE SCORED A 126 ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The psychologist was blown away. We were blown away. He said we have an extremely intelligent child on our hands, but that he is stuck in a body that will not let him perform to his abilities. I am on top of the world today! I never dreamed we would get results like that. It really makes me look at him a whole different way. :hyper:hyper:hyper:hyper:hyper:hyper

:yay That is so awesome! No wonder your bursting with joy. Not only do you have a smart little cookie there, but you have put in all the time and hard work to help him and it must feel so good to know that you can make a difference. It's wonderful that the Doc is willing to not make his diagnosis official so that you can continue with what you need. I hope his progress continues to be excellent.
