is it normal for babies to sleep literally ALL THE TIME? i mean, it's perfectly fine with me when mine do, because it means they're not crying, but except for their one crying spell today and waking up to eat a bunch of times, they've been asleep since 11 pm last night. and every time i lay down, they wake up. so now i'm terrified that they won't sleep tonite and therefore neither will I. is this normal at 3 weeks old still? my mom said by two weeks i was awake and alert a lot more than when i was born...

Mine slept a lot for the first 2 months (which was great cuz I was still in school), but they were preemies though. Every baby is different, so I'm sure there's nothing wrong.

Yours are still pretty little, so what energy they do have, they use for growing and not really for being alert and looking around. I think my girls slept all the time until they were a month or so, and they were a bit bigger than your girls. As long as they are waking to eat, and are having the right amount of wet and poopy diapers and growth, they are just fine. Let them sleep...and you try to get some too!:hugs

Its my opinion that it is normal. Mine were not more alert and awake for longer periods until about a month and half old. Than at that age they had their days and night screwed up so we had to work on keeping them awake for longer periods during the day.

Yours are still very little. It is normal for them to sleep. Usually around 3 months is when they really start to stay awake more.

Yep, 3 months past due date or so is about the time mine were awake for longer than it took to eat.

How do you guys even remember?? I know mine were not alert and awake this soon, but I can't remember when? I was thinking how does Smidge's mom remember from all those eons ago?

Bottom line is that I wouldn't worry at all Smidge. They are perferctly normal. :hug

I think Beak was awake and alert after a few weeks and the twins were after they were a month or so old.

I remember because it was a traumatizing time for us.

Miss bella is more awake now.. and she typically sleeps during the day in the LR still, in the swing or in her pack n' PLay..

At night she still wakes every 3-4 hours... but goes right to sleep most of the time.. other times she squirms...
