any of you have any tricks to getting an infant to keep a pacifier in his/her mouth? my girls love em and will suck on em forever, as long as i sit there holding it in. they will suck on em for a while, then spit them out and scream till you go put it back in. then do it all over again...it's really frustrating. sometimes i just wish i could strap it to their faces lol.

Like I said in another thread...duct tape.:lol

Unfortunately, they just have to learn how to keep them in their mouths. They will eventually learn, but until then, it's a PITA.

None of my kids took pacis. We tried, because as long as they had them in theirmouths, they were quiet. BUT, we got tired ofholdingthem in thier mouths...so we gave up.

My boys learned early on that it was a fun game of fetch with mommy. I stopped giving them back to them, they slowly stopped spitting them out quite as much. It wasn't that early though, so I don't know if my little story was even relevant. I hope they start keeping them in their mouths for you so you don't have to hold them.

lol duck...it was a great story regardless! hehehe. i agree that it's just cuz they're young and uncoordinated. it's just so frustrating when it's the only thing that'll calm em down! and i know they'll start doing it again once they learn the fetch thing...lol. yeah, not looking forward to that, either.

Don't know if you are using the Soothie Pacifiers that they use in the hospitals now, but here is a link to a holder designed specifically for it. I have not gotten one yet for my grandtwins but will if they ever need them. So far, they are not addicted to their pacifiers, yet!!

thanks michtown! my girls aren't really old enough to realize that they could hold something like that and keep the pacifier in their mouth yet, but those look AWESOME for when they're a little older! our hospital didn't have the soothies, they had mam pacifiers, and the girls HATED them! so far, all they'll use is the Nuk ones. they're pretty picky...thanks for the link though. i will probably get a couple of em in a couple months when they can actually hold stuff like that!

I use the soothie too... the hospital specifically gave her the (preemie) size.. its (softer) the other's are mroe firm.

anyway I found that gerber makes these (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=149909&catid=48847&aid=336060&aparam=gerber_gentleflex_pacifie) which are really soft to suck on, and comparable to the soothie Isabell has.. so she'll take to it.. but she's the same way even now, she spits it out when she's not really wanting it.. and when she's really mad she's hard to get to take the paci's

My boys take Nuks and I had to force them on them. In...out...in...out...in...out. Z never wanted his and I would hold it there. Eventually he'd start sucking away. Now they spit them out occasionally and I have to retrieve them (the clippy things are great to keep them off the floor.)

yeah, its hard to get my girls to take em when they're mad too. but they get mad when they spit em out lol. i try to tell them that if they don't spit it out they won't get mad, but they don't wanna hear it. hehehe
