I know we have talked about this before but I am too lazy to go look for the thread :crack

How old, what weight, and all that good stuff were your kids when you moved them to a booster seat?

Allison is growing like a flippen weed and is growing out of her shoulder straps being positioned right. Emily is so tiny that her's is fine and will be for a while.

I know with my others we changed them over at about this age but with all the new law requirments and E and A still seem too babyish to me to be ready to move up. I thought I would see what you all have/are done/doing :)

Mine were probably too young to switch to boosters when I did. Their dad is a cop though and he took them and the boosters and they passed the car seat check so we switched. They could get out of the harnesses but would stay in a booster. It was safer to have them in something rather than not being able to keep them in anything.

I want to say they were 3.5 and probably 35lbs.?

We need to get a booster with back for Annie now and all this recent flap has confused me.:roll I want to keep her in 5-point restraint, but seems they want them using the seat belt with the booster after 40 lbs. She is about 39, so this is all confusing.

The new recommendation is to keep them harnessed to 65 lbs. The Graco Nautilus will do that, then switch to a high back booster, then switch to a no back booster- truly the last carseat we'll need. The Apex 65 also harnesses to 65lbs, but can only be used in a car with a headrest behind it (i can't use it in my Neon, but can in my mom's van with the adjustable headrests).

We're either switching to the Nautilus or another Graco highback booster that converts to a regular booster within the next 6 months.

We have 2 Britex boosters. We switched them right around 4...they were 40 lbs and were too tall for the car seats

They should be in a harnessed seat as long as possible, up to the weight limits of the seat (greater than 40lbs as some seats have a 40lb limit which is not enough for your typical child). The nautilus would be an excellent choice. There are seats that harness to 65 and 80lbs. Most kids are not mature enough to sit properly in a booster seat until at least age 6. some at age 5 can do it. THe problem is they wont stay under the seat belt properly. They might lean forward and loosen the belt or take their arm out of the shoulder part. The statistics are scary, car accidents are the leading cause of death among children and 85-90% of all children are not restrained properly in the vehicle! The seats I have harness to 65lbs but on the highest setting the harness is somewhat lower than some other seats so most kids only make it to around 55lbs in the seats we have. I hope to get something that goes to 80lbs when they outgrow these.

Mine are almost 4 and I still have them in a 5 point harness. They will be in them for a long while. The ones we have eventually convert to a backless booster. This is what we have. http://www.safeguardseat.com/go/index.htm
