Lizzy and anyone else with older boys...
I need some help/ideas. Beak is just being a total butthead. Please please please say that it is hormones. We have tried everything, but he continues to be a butthead. I so hope this just isn't his personality.
Actually, he got put on a timeout all day yesterday because his actions and being a butthead. Today, he seems somewhat better. Maybe, the long long long timeouts will work.
So, is it hormones? And, if so, when does it end? (Soon?)
Beak is 12 and will be 13 in February.

Jay goes through that. :twitch
He is naturally a great kid, but he can be the biggest butthead! :gaah
I do believe it's a part of growing up to see the limits they can push.
Sadly, I don't know when it ends for boys...I'm still going through it with you. :sigh
We will have to hold each other.

Caleb will be 15 in Feb and is still a butthead most of the time :cry
He is a good kid but he, like most people, needs a time out from time to time. Sometimes when he is smarting off or picking on his sisters I will send him to his room for a couple of quite hours. It does seem to help :yep
I do think it is a stage and them trying to adjust to all the new changes they are going through but dang! I am the only one allowed to be PMS'ing in this house right now :tantrum

Dayna:
Does he have any "changes" yet?
Beak's voice is changing and he has, um, "bodily changes". He is 5'6" and weighs about 106 lbs. People keep thinking he is 14. And, I am like, nope...12. Of course, then I get the "oh my, he's a big boy." I feel like saying, "Really?" with a real questioning look on my face. Well, either that or slapping them on the forehead...

I have Beak and then I have the twins following up behind him.
You know, that rubber room is looking better and better all the time.

Well, everyone is different. Usually, it is somewhere around 12, but some are later and it is more like 14. You are so lucky.
My brother was a butthead roughly between the ages of 12 and 23 :para

Oh great... Until 23... He may not live until 23 at this rate.
Digging a big hole and burying him up to his neck sounds like a good idea most of the time.

Oh man, I'm in denial that my kids will ever go through puberty. I was the worst kid once I hit 12. I didn't get better much better until 20ish. I know I'm going to get payback and more so with Brooklyn. She is so much like me. :sigh I feel for you. :comfort

oh crap. My oldest will be 10 in a few days and he's already been moody and irritable a good bit of the time and he doesn't have any "changes" yet, but he's beginning to get some odor in his pits. :kickcan
I am worried about how bad this is going to get.

10 was the worst year with Beak. It was horrid. He was not listening to me at all. Now, is is better, but he is just a butt. You know, a fit when they are 2 is cute. A 12 year old having a fit is so not cute.

I have been jokingly threatening to move out when they all hit puberty. You know, I just might. Leave their hormonal butts with DH.

My guys all started wearing deo about 10. Actually, I think the twins were 9, but they stink more or something. Maybe it is the stench of both of them together.
When they first started wearing it, they all wore crystal deo.

Do they ever start caring about their looks (ie clean clothes, clean hair, brushed teeth, and no bo)?

Well, house rule is that you have to bathe every few days or before we go somewhere. Also, if they played outside, then they have to bathe when they come in.
At home, I don't care how long they wear their clothes, but if I ask for them, they had better strip naked quick. Going out, they are required to be presentable. They have "good" clothes for going out in public and "play" clothes for around the house.
If they do not brush their teeth enough (after sweets, after meals, and before bed) and they have cavities, they have to pay me back for the fillings.
You know, I was thinking about this, and my mom and I agree that my bro seemed to go through the worst of the buttheadedness from about 12 to 16. After that he leveled off a bit. And the bathing thing, I remember my mom lecturing my brother to shower: "Take off your clothes. Get in the tub. Turn on the water. Use soap. Soap your entire body. Rinse it off. You might have to do that twice. Dry off." If she didn't do that, he sometimes would just turn on the water and stand next to the tub, or get in and "rinse" without actually using soap, or he'd just wash his hands or whatever. Damn he was gross :lol My brother played sports and did a lot of camping too, so he was always really dirty. Around 16 is when he started having girlfriends. It was like something clicked for him, "When my sisters tell me I stink, other girls don't come near me either. There may be a correlation between being clean and girls not finding me disgusting." :snicker
He's almost 28 now and he's still a butthead a lot of the time though :para

Jacob has somewhat started. Daniel has, but he has his Dad's OCD about it. :para Jacob will take a shower if I ask him only 2x! :woot He also LOVES cologne! Maybe a little too much :para

Jonathan will "shower". He'll stand in there for hours if we let him... but we still have to remind him to actually "bathe" with soap and shampoo. :gross
He has a girlfriend, but we only see her a few times a year, so I guess she isn't much of a drive.
He did tell me he didn't want to eat too much and get fat, though, because she wouldn't like him anymore.
I need to look into deodorant I guess. :sigh
