Well, I was scheduled for my C-Section on July 15th at 8am. I was told to get there at least 30 mins prior to get set up… We were running so late that morning.. I just kept thinking all the way up there.. Great… what mom is late to her own children’s births? Unbelievable! Well, we get there… they are all happy to see me.. my parents and my grandmother are there waiting for me… They send me back to triage, and get me hooked up on all the monitors… Slowly everyone who is going to be helping comes in to introduce themselves… They brought in an EMT who needed to see how a C-Section is performed- in case he had to do an emergency one in the field. They asked me if it was ok.. I didn’t mind… I delivered at UC Davis Med Ctr, so.. it’s a learning facility.. they often have people in their residency, and students there to help out… I was so excited… They were shocked I hadn’t had any contractions yet. I was 38 weeks to the day… and nothing…
They explain how we’re going to go into the OR, get the spinal done, and then they’ll bring in Ryan… They asked if I wanted to see everything that was going on.. uh.. NO thank you! I walked over to the OR… just across the hall… and Ryan gave me kiss… I was scared out of my mind…. The Anesthesiologist asked if I wanted him to show me what he was going to do… NOPE! I HATE needles.. just do what you gotta and warn me when it’s going to hurt… The nurse that stood in front of me was very calm and reassuring.. I was trying to be so brave.. I didn’t want to look like a cry baby in front of all these people… hahaha.. They got me numb, and brought Ryan in… Put up the curtain.. and away they went…
Only a couple of minutes went by and he said they already had me open… ALREADY? Wow… He kept peeking over the curtain to give me a play by play.. He laughed because they were really tugging on Alexandra to get her out.. .she was kicking her feet! I guess she was comfy in there… They got her out and I heard her first cry… I was just in tears! Then Ryan laughs again… and tells me Victoria came out butt first… She was mooning the Dr! hahaha… THAT’s My girl! I heard her cry…. I cried even more… Ryan left to follow the girls around… they brought the girls back in one by one so I could get a quick picture with them… wow… I’m a mommy! Ryan ran back in to tell me he’d meet me in recovery.. he had to follow the girls to the NICU.. they just wanted to check on them.. and make sure they were ok… The girls spent 6 hours in the NICU… They had trouble expelling the fluid from their lungs, which is typical in a C-Section.. and Victoria had trouble regulating her body temps…
Later on that evening when I got to see the girls for the first time.. they wheeled them into my room… I was a mess of tears… I couldn’t believe these precious girls were mine… we were there over the weekend.. and then went home Monday afternoon… I still thank God everyday that I had no complications.. .now I just pray every day for the strength and patience to keep up with these 2!
