My 2 oldest didn't have to stay too long.

Sammi born at 34 weeks stayed for a little over a week because of her weight dropping, low temp and jaundice.

Jacob born at 40.3 weeks stayed for a little over a week because he had heart problems, his sugar dropped to 21 and he got severe jaundice because his blood type is 0+ and mine was 0-.

we were very lucky to have only had Sarah in the NICU for 8 days for various reasons (grower feeder, jaundice...) she had a blue episodes the day i was discharged with Jess and that was why they kept her initially... then it was not eating, bilirubin numbers... etc etc...

Our experience PALES in comparison with what some of what you ladies went thru - you ladies are heros you NICU moms who had babies with long stays..

Evie and Ella were both in for 42 days. They were going to send Ella home first and make Evie wait for 2 more days b/c of her body temp. The Dr pulled me aside when we came to take Ella and said "take your babies home where they belong". It was such a relief to have both of them home at the same time.

Mine were in NICU for a week which was a miracle for Maddie. The docs and nurses kept telling me how bad she was doing and that she would probably be there for 6 weeks until her due date. I could not leave her there alone. I just couldn't do it. I didn't want to leave either of them, but if I had to I wanted them to be together. I must've cried the whole day they told me Kaya would be going home alone. I cried to Maddie when I was nursing her and told her I didn't want to leave her there alone so she had to start eating better and keeping her food down and stop the Desats so she could be in an open isolette, etc. This is no exaggeration when I say this, but that was the morning I was discharged and when I came back the next afternoon to feed them she was in an open isolette and was eating the same cc as her sister. They were upping her feedings by 5 ccs every feeding that she kept it down. They day they came home I called to see when they ate last and she said why don't you wait and just come when you pick them up...huh?? Pick THEM up?? Wahooo! Sorry I know this wasn't what you asked, but I just wanted to share my miracle :woohoo

Taylor, my singleton, was born at 35 weeks, and spent 7 days in the NICU. She was on a vent for 3 days.

Gavin and Garrett were born at 36 weeks 3 days. Garrett stayed with me, and Gavin went to the NICU. He was on 2 different types of vents, had chest tubes, Pic lines, feeding tubes, and on and on.

My girls were born at 33 weeks and 6 days. Since they were born before 34 weeks, they NICU had certain thing they had to do.
Dani came home in 6 days. And she was my small baby at 4 pounds 4 ounces
Sydney (4 pounds 13 ounces) came home in 12 days on caffeine medicine and an apnea monitor.

I give all you mom's whose kids had long NICU stays alot of credit. You are amazing.

My boys were born at 30 weeks, 5 days due to TTTS.
Jake was in the NICU for 7 weeks (49 days) and Peyton for 9 weeks (63 days).
Those were the most trying days of my life. It was so hard to watch them there. It sucked taking Jake home first. I cried like a little b*tch when we left with him. Yes, I was happy but I didn't want Peyton to be alone.
Still thinking of that moment I cry.:missyou

My boys were born at 36w4d. They were born on wednesday and went to the regular nursery and stayed with me. Then on friday morning they told me they were taking them to the NICU. I cried like a big ole baby. I was so upset. They took them because of jaundice. They are A+ and I was O-. Tyler's wasnt as bad and he came home Sunday night after 3 days in the NICU. Tristan then decided he was too sleepy to eat and so he stayed in until the next Friday, so he was in a week. Everyone was teasing us cuz they were the biggest babies in the NICU..born at 6lbs 6oz(Tyler) and 7lbs 2oz (Tristan). I don't know how you girls did it. It was so hard having them there for that week. It was hard leaving Tristan there when Tyler came home and it was especially hard when I went back in the hospital on Tues and couldn't see either of them for a couple days :( I still get teary eyed looking at pictures of Tristan with that IV in his head. You guys are amazing!!

my hats are off to all of you who had long stays. that was really hard even with well babies, and we were lucky enough to bring them both home. that would have been so hard to go home with one, and i totally admire your strength. i am so amazed when i look at the babies of the ladies i was pg with and see them so big now...wow! :dance

The girls were born at 34 weeks. They spent 8 days in the NICU. The first 3 days they had tubes coming out of everywhere. I thought for sure I was going to have a nervous break down the first time I saw them. I hats off and my heart goes out to all the NICU moms that had extended days. Those 8 days were the hardest days of my life. I can't even begin to imagine what some of you went through. :hug

Julia was in for 12 days, Eddie came home with us. It was so hard not bringing both home.

For all of you who have babies in nicu, hang in there, they're in good hands and they'll be home soon.

My first DD was born at 34 weeks, but had various problems. She was in the NICU for 2 months, from October 25, 2000 to December 29, 2000. She passed away 2 years ago on October 14, 2004 from complications following a bone marrow transplant because of Fanconi Anemia.

My twins were born at 33 weeks 3 days and were in the NICU for 19 days as feeder/growers. We were so blessed by their short stay.

The twins were in the NICU for 8 and 10 days. Ashton was the first one to go there with failure to maintain o2 sats, then stayed for jaundice, failure to eat and was discharged with o2 untill he was 2 months. Ryon was admitted after about 8 hours which happened to be the first time I saw Ashton and they told the nurse to make room his brother is coming and I lost it! Ryon was admitted for low blood sugar, then he had failure to eat and then he failed the carseat test and was sent home with 02 for 2 months. Looking back that was the longest week for my life, even longer than my 3 months on bed rest :)
