On August 18th I woke up with pretty bad contractions. I put up with them for about 3 hours, and finally called my mother in law to come get me and Zack. Off we went to the hospital and she dropped me off at the front entrance and took Zack home. They gave me a ride in a wheel chair to labor and delivery. I hated to go back after my 4 previous visits and always got sent home.
The doctor came and checked me. He asked me what I had been before when I got checked last. I told him o% effaced and totally closed. He then informed me that I was 4 cm and 100 %effaced and I would have the babies tonight. I had been planning on a c-section as Olivia was twin B and was stubbornly breech. All I remember of that portion of the night is yelling at the dr during contractions not to forget my tubal ligation. I called my best friend Mary to come in and be with me. I then called my husband John to come home. He was working in Minnesota all week long.
They brought me to the operating room and gave me a spinal with some narcotics in it. When that took effect it was heaven. I finally could stop shaking and crying from the pain. I work in the recovery room as a nurse, and knew the nurses and Dr's doing my surgery, so we all were kind of joking around while the Dr was cutting me open.
Johnny was born August 19th 2005 at 255am weighing 5 pounds 10 oz, and Olivia followed quickly behind at 256am weighing 4 pounds 6 oz. Both cried immediately which is one of the most beautiful sounds in the world. Both came back to my room with me. But Johnny only got to stay for a couple hours, as he was having trouble breathing and maintaining his body temperature.
I stayed in the hospital for 4 days, and Olivia stayed in my room most of the time, except when I visited Johnny in NICU. He came home 10 days later. I had a great birth experience. My advice to anyone having a c-section is to get up walking as soon as you can. It helps so much.
