Mmmm, 19w, huh? Let me think. Have they started moving yet? Do you know what you are having? How were they presenting?
Oh, oh, oh, do you have one of those heartbeat machines? I remember listenting to that, like ALL day! Lots of eating and laying around.
At this time last year I was 23w so we are about a month and a year off. Lissette, I think would of been the exact same as you. Mine were born 2/3/06 @36w perfectly fine. I think Lissettes were born around 1/4/06...sry lis. I'm sure she'll be in.
I was going for monthy U/S, which were great! At around 28/30w you will probably start going weekly.

Welcome! i just had my girls in August, so pregnancy is still so fresh in my mind! Congratulations! I know you're probably still freaking out, but it's soooooooo exciting too! if you don't feel that way yet you will! Did you find out what sex they are?
You definitely came to the right place! the girls here got me through the end of my pregnancy. i don't know what i would have done without them. i only wish i found them sooner! just take care of yourself, rest a lot and try to mentally prepare. And learn all you can about pregnancy/birth/life with twins.
I don't really know what you can expect in the next few months for sure as every pregnancy, just like every baby and every woman, is different. Your belly will get huger than you ever thought possible, though :lol and there's a good chance you'll end up on bedrest, even if its just a precaution like it was for me.
Please ask any and all questions you may have, as well as just have fun while you're here. We're here to help you and support you. And i can't wait to get to know you better!
Oh, and BTW i'm Christina, SAHM to 3 month old fraternal girls Devonne and Alanna. :D

Oh, yeah, try and think about having a baby shower, early, like at around 6/7months prego. Just to make sure you will make it! AND so you won't be tooo big to be putting stuff together or putting things away. My shower was at 27w and their nursery was completely done way before they came. It felt GREAT!!

oh yeah, Stacy's right. LOTS of doctors appointments and ultrasounds. i think i had like 8 ultrasounds if not more. singleton pregnancies get one, maybe two depending on the dr. (unless there's problems of course).

They are moving more and more. So far just the little flutters though. I have a 3 year old so pregnancy isn't quite all new to me, but pregnancy with twins??????? I am having a boy and a girl. Need to get one of those monitors. Where did u get yours? Any places to get cool free stuff? My husband is a cowboy and we live on $1400 a month. We need all the help we can get. Man you girls are awesome already. Didn't expect this much support so fast. :meme

Congrats on your twins! Make sure you come introduce yourself in the Introduction forum. You've definately come to the right place if you're looking for advice on twins. We have some great moms here that will have some great advice to give you. Feel free to ask as many questions as you want. :gz
Have your baby shower early. In the next couple of weeks preferably.
Stay off your feet as much as possible. Stay hydrated and get plenty of rest.
You'll probably start having tons of appointments soon. You'll probably also get sent to a perinatologist to get a better look at your twins on a higher-powered ultrasound. I found out I was having twins at 18w. I had already been seeing the OB every 2 weeks because of my blood pressure (darn preeclampsia), and I had to start going every week from about 30 weeks on. And I saw the perinatologist twice before 30 weeks and once after. And I got an ultrasound at every appointment so he could be sure whose heartbeat he was checking and to measure them to make sure their growth was concordant. I must've had 14 or 15 ultrasounds.
You really don't need two cribs for the first couple of months. So don't worry about getting a second one immediately. My boys co-slept until 9 months.

I hated the ultrasounds .. especially when I got huge .. laying down for that long a time on my back killed me and I had a hard time breathing !! Plus I had to go to endure a few echocardiograms for Jayden while he was still inside me .. thats ONE thing I dont miss !!
Other than that it was a blast !! :snicker

Congratulations!! I am so happy for you!
Let's see:
have a baby shower early
put your feet up for a few hours everyday
scope out consignment and garage sales
If you do get 2 of something, make sure they are different-ie if you get a fischer price bouncy get a baby einstein bouncy and that way you can switch the babies to something different! (is that confusing?)
Get a double snap n' go (a metal stroller frame that holds two infant car seats)
Have some preparation H for after the delivery:lol (even if it is a c section!)
Relax!!! Enjoy your pregnancy and take lots of pics of your belly.

I bought my heartbeat monitor at wal-mart for $20 sometimes it picked it up. Sometimes all I could hear was my dog breathing!! :lol
Oh, seriously. Drink lots and lots and lots and lots of water! I was drinking at least 1 gallon a day, sometimes 2. The trick is that you want to keep drinking water until your pee is clear. If it is yellow, you need to drink more. I am sure that is not just a twin thing, but just a mommy thing, so you already knew that one, huh?? :lmao Hey, I was a first timer and a twin prego at the same time. I don't know whats normal and what's not!

i didn't get many real headaches during my pregnancy that i can remember. i think maybe like one. you can only really take tylenol, so i took some of the tylenol 8 hour and went to bed. i would also have a small cup of coffee (as most of mine were due to going cold-turkey on caffeine) if i was getting a caffeine headache.
if tylenol and sleep don't help, i'd suggest calling your doctor. don't worry, they really DO want you to call with questions! mine would get mad when i was like "well i was going to call but..." she'd be like "well, why didn't you? that's what we're here for."
and please, check out other threads in the pregnancy forum as well as other forums on this board...there's a TON of great stuff here! we actually just started a preggo belly contest if you wanna check it out: http://gottwinz.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7411

Hello Kosborn!
I am also pregnant with twins right now (32 weeks today) and I just joined up here too. I also have 2.5 yr old toddler. I have just been trying to take it as easy as possible and cook these babies a few weeks more...
I recommend also joining a Multiple Births Association in your area. Where I live, (Toronto, Canada) they have a newsletter, monthly local meetings, information nights and also a huge sale twice a year (we just got a double snap-n-go stroller for $18!) where you can pick up baby gear for cheap. Try to find out if there is one in your area (Texas, right?) or perhaps there are others here who live closer to you and can point you in the right direction.

K Guys here's another one. I am a newlywed. Just got married on September 30th. Now I am worried about the weight gain. How much did you guys gain??
Oh and awesome treat for me, last night was the first time that I really got to feel both of the babies moving pretty good. IT WAS AWESOME!! I LOVED IT!!
Smidget
11-09-2006, 10:41 PM
isn't that such an AMAZING feeling! enjoy it while it lasts cuz pretty soon it'll be really tight in there for them. mine didn't move much at the end because they were too squished.
as far as weight gain, i was 115 when i got preggo and i think was like between 160-165 when i had them at 38 weeks. so i gained 45-50 pounds. i'm still working on losing the belly, but its only been 3 months and i can squeeze back in SOME of my pre-preggo pants. its just shirts i won't put back on...
are you gonna breastfeed or bottlefeed do you think? that makes a difference. by three weeks PP i only had 5 pounds to get back to my pre-preggo weight b/c i was breastfeeding :D

I gained about 40 at 37 weeks and had a c sec. I had gestational diabetes though, so I wasn't allowed to eat junk. If I could have eaten anything I wanted, I bet I would have gained 50.
I lost 25 in the hospital. I BFed and was down to my prepreggo weight by about 3 months pp.

Thanks you guys and congrats Branwen. Hope you have a easy delivery and healthy babies! Are you worried about your 2.5 yr old getting kinda ignored?? That is one of my concerns too. She is my daughter from before my husband and I met and this is his first baby. Babies! That is still hitting me! He treats her like his own and says that she won't get treated any different from the other ones, but really, these are his babies and twins. BTW yes I plan to breastfeed, but won't I probably have to give them formula too???
I gained 50 lbs total, delivered at 34 weeks. Most of my weight gain was at the end though.
My boys had suck/swallow and other oral motor problems so we never really breastfed, but for the most part there's no reason you'd need to supplement. You'll have plenty of milk. We have several EBFing mommies around here that can help you.

K Guys here's another one. I am a newlywed. Just got married on September 30th. Now I am worried about the weight gain. How much did you guys gain??
I will be 34 weeks tomorrow and so far I have gained 55 pounds. I started out @145 and am now about 200! :snicker
Then again, I weighed about 135-140 pounds before I got pregnant with my first and I gained about 70 just with her... I managed to lose almost everything but those last stubborn 5 lbs or so within one year (thank you, breastfeeding!) so I am not too concerned about weight gain. Nor should you be, I think, if you are planning to breastfeed. It really sucks the pounds away!
I'm more concerned about that "twinskin" y'all keep mentioning in here... :worry
Smidget
11-20-2006, 09:56 PM
lol the twinskin REALLY isn't that bad. its frustrating when you're where i am (3 month old twins, breastfed most of the weight off, but still look like you could lose some), but its starting to settle in that its not fat its skin, and it'll take longer to go away. SO, i just tuck it in my pants ;) :lol

Congrats! Try to relax and enjoy the pregnancy. After we found out we were having twins (I was 6 months pregnant) I was pretty scared but, you CAN and will be able to do it. Concentrate on taking care of yourself and those (soon to be) babies! Pack a bag and take it with you to all your appointments just in case (or leave it in the car). My friend just had her baby and didn't do that... she ended up with panties and bras that didn't fit and old clothes she hadn't seen in forever b/c she had to have her husband pack for her! LOL. If you ever need anyone to talk to let me know! -Jen

Thanks kosborn. All the best to you, too! I am a bit worried for my daughter but my DH will be taking some parental leave so he will be around in the early months. My parents live close by and have pledged their support as well so I am hoping that she will get enough attention from Daddy and Ma & Pa if I am too busy with the twins... She is also a very confident and independent child and she loves babies. I have been told that if you enlist your older child as a helper with the babies (fetching diapers, etc.) and give them lots of praise for being the "big boy/girl" or "Mommy's helper" they sometimes feel better about their siblings!
I am also going to try and make sure that she has some special "one on one" time with me, whenever possible. I'll have to see what kind of personalities the twins have once they arrive. My eldest was a pretty demanding newborn but I keep hearing they're not ALL like that! :lol

11-21-2006, 09:01 PM
Branwen and Kosborn-
I am so excited for you both. I posted once but thought I would answer some of the questions since I have more time now. Weight gain- I gained 45 pounds b/c that is what my DR told me to gain. I actually gained 60 with my first child (singleton) LOL. I didn't know we were having twins until I was 6 months pregnant b/c I never measure big and they never heard two heartbeats. (I think they just found one and stopped looking). I'd imagine that if I had known it was two the whole time I would have gained 90 pounds. Hahaha. Actually it was hard at the end to get any food to fit into my tummy. I totally advise small more frequent meals.
I read someone posted to drink lots of water and I will DOUBLE that statement. I actually had several occasions where contractions were stopped due to downing enough water! I guess being dehydrated causes contractions so drink until you float.
Headaches... I had a lot of those. I tried tylenol and caffiene which seemed to help some. Drinking lots of water can help. My vote is for getting a massage though! Especially if they are tension headaches.
I also wanted to tell you that I have an older child as well. She was almost three when the twins were born. My best advice is to keep the older child as involved as possible. My daughter went to all of the ultrasounds and she waited in the waiting room to see the babies right after they were born. She even refers to the babies as "her babies". I found her important "big sister" things to do. She loved to be mommy's helper.
If we took the babies out and someone said (you'll get this a lot, I'm sure), "Oh, look at the twins" then I would make sure and say, "Yes, and they have the best big sister her name is Melina". Our friends actually bought Melina "big sister" presents when the babies were born and we got her an "I'm the big sister shirt" to wear the day we brought them home. I think some of the big sister/brother books were helpful at getting her more prepared too.
We have never had any problems with jealousy thus far and the babies are 18 months and getting into her stuff. She is pretty easy going and just says "Silly baby that's a big girl toy.. not for you yet".
Melina stayed with Grandma and Grandpa when I was in the hospital but we didn't have her stay with anyone once we were home. We didn't want her to feel excluded. We also didn't put her right into preschool (which would have started the month after we brought the babies home) b/c we didn't want her to feel like we were saying... "here are the new babies now you have to go somewhere else". It would have been nice to have the "break" and just have two at home with me but we chose not to do that.
Anyway, it worked for us but all kidos are different. I hope this helps. If you ever want to talk feel free to e-mail me. RackleyMay19@hotmail.com
Congrats again on the babies to both of you! It is a lot of work but it is DOUBLE the rewards.
-Jen
